How to play Triple Monkey

Triple Monkey is an easy to play but difficult to master card game that is perfect for family game night. The game can be played with 2-6 players and all you need is a standard deck of 52 cards. The object of the game is to collect as many points as possible by discard or taking tricks.

The dealer deals out all of the cards, face down, so that each player has 13 cards. The player to the dealers left starts the first round and play passes clockwise. On a player's turn they must draw one card from either the deck or another player and then play one. There are a few different things that can happen on a player's turn:

1) Play a card from your hand - this could be any card, including a Ace (1).

2) Take a trick - if you play a card that is higher than the card previously played in the trick (e.g. Queen > Jack), then you take the trick and add it to your point total. The Ace (1) is high, and Two (2) is low. If two different suits are played in the same trick, then the higher card wins (e.g. Ace of Hearts > Ace of Spades).

3) Discard a card into the middle of the table - there are no particular rules for discarding, but it's usually helpful to keep your hand as low as possible so that you can take more tricks later on.

When all the cards have been played, the player with the lowest score discards their remaining card(s) and end their turn. The other players then draw one more card and their turn ends. Play continues like this until one player runs out of cards - that player then automatically loses regardless of their point total (unless they have won all 10 tricks, in which case they win!). The winner is then determined by counting up everyone's points - each Ace (1) is worth 1 point, and every other number card is worth its face value (e.g. 3 = 3 points). The suit of the card doesn't matter. The winner is whoever has the most points at the end of the game!
